My Asian Adventure…..
Today’s Fortune: An unexpected event will soon make your life more interesting.
Wow!! I don’t know how my life could get more interesting, but my fortunes are mostly right, so I will look forward to this unexpected event. We seem to have a lot of those around here.
Last weekend, after we ate at Irma’s Burger Shack, we went to the Asian market to get me some fortune cookies, because Grand House did not know that we needed one for each day of the week. The Asian market was very cool. We saw so many wonderful things. It was much different than Super Target or WalMart.
They had amazing things that I had never seen before. It was like a grocery store, only much prettier. They had fans on the wall, and some flowers that Mom called “orchids”. It was like shopping in a beautiful garden. We did not get any orchids. We did not get any fans, either.
There was a bunch of interesting meat that I had never seen on our regular grocery shopping trips. Mom has several Asian cookbooks. I was hoping she would buy some ox tails to make me some soup. I don’t know if I would like it, but it would be an unexpected event, and it would make my life more interesting. Unfortunately, we did not get any of the interesting meat, either.
They also had lots of interesting fish. They all still had their heads on, and one of them was really huge. He took up a whole section of the display case all by himself. He was called a “Red Snapper”. Mom says red snapper is very tasty, but we did not need fish. We did not get him.
Then we saw some really cool crabs in an aquarium. I wanted to bring a crab home to keep in a goldfish bowl, but Mom said they needed to stay in the aquarium where they were happy. Putting a big crab in a goldfish bowl apparently makes the crab unhappy. It would not be good to make a crab more crabby. We did not get a crab.
We also saw something called “Pork Uteris.” We did not know what that was. We did not get it.
There was a whole wall stacked up with big bags of rice. I thought one of those bags might be nice to take a nap on, because I was tired from all the shopping and not getting anything. Mom said we already had plenty of rice at home. We did not get a big bag of rice.
We finally got to the section of the store where they had cookies!! I got a huge bag of fortune cookies. There were a lot of bags to choose from, but this one looked the best. There must have been a thousand cookies in that store. I’ll bet the guy who writes those fortunes doesn’t do anything but sit at a typewriter all day.
Then we found some very good tins of cookies that I really needed. Mom said I could only have one of them, so I chose the “Fun Club” ones. After all, I have a Happy Day pretty much every day (except when Mom blogs about knitting.) The Fun Club cookies turned out to be a very good choice, because there are really good banana cookies in there. If you go to the Asian market, be sure to get those!!
Next, we saw some statues of a guy that looked a lot like Santa Claus without any hair or clothes. Mom said he was not Santa. She says she thinks he is called “Budai,” and that he is an important figure in Buddhism and Chinese culture, but she did not know much more than that. I think Dharma Marmalade is a Buddhist. We really need to study about that before she gets here, so she will feel welcome.
I really wanted to get one of these statues, but Mom said we did not have room, what with all the monkeys and cameras and cats and stuff. We did not get a statue.
Then we found a wonderful great big Hello Kitty!! Mom was taking my picture with Hello Kitty, when a man in a uniform came up to her and told her she would have to stop. Mom said he was a “Security Guard.” Apparently, we were not supposed to be taking pictures there. Especially not three feet in front of where he was sitting. He said that the “No Pictures” policy was posted on the front door. We did not notice it when we came in. We will have to start looking for those notices, I guess.
We paid for our fortune cookies and Fun Club cookies and left the Asian market. We felt really bad about breaking the rules, because rules are very important.
We did not get a Hello Kitty.
We also did not get a picture of the Security Guard.
Even though we kind of got in trouble, it was definitely an unexpected event that made our lives more interesting. That guy who writes all the fortunes is so very wise. And he also must type very fast.
Today’s Vocabulary Words: Orchids, red snapper, pork uteris, Budai, security guard.

Noah, when your sister is at our house I will take many pictures of her with my Buddhas. Maybe some of his wisedom will rub off on her.
(((hugs little Noah))).

actually that would be wisdom, I’m not so wise as Buddha.

We didn’t mean to break the rules. I felt really bad to get in trouble for hugging a big Hello Kitty. I do love those cans, though. When I eat all of my cookies, I will keep the can, and put treasures in it. Love, Noah

I hope so. I hope she does not corrupt your Buddhas. Tell Dharma I said, “Hi, Sweetie!!” Love, Noah
