We Get More Visitors!!

Today’s Fortune: You will receive an unexpected visit.

Hmmm… My fortune cookie was right about the visitor part, but so far, the visitors have all been expected. My brother (Aaron) and my sister-in-law (Adrianne) came out to see us. They are the ones we stayed with in North Carolina, so we just saw them, but Adrianne had never been to Oklahoma, so they decided to visit. Mom says they are a very cute couple, and I have to agree.  This is a picture of what they look like…

They got to stay with us for five days.  The first day they were here was July 3rd.    We went to the Oklahoma History Museum, and then went to McNellie’s for dinner.  I will have to tell about those later, because there is too much to write about in one blog post.  We had a wonderful time!

After dinner, we went to watch the fireworks.  They have fireworks here on the 3rd and 4th of July, which is good, because it rained on the 4th, and it was not as much fun.  Mom held me up so I could see the fireworks.  It was a lot of fun!  Mom says they do fireworks on New Year’s, too, but it is too cold to stand outside and watch them, so I was glad we got to see these.

When we got home, there was a package waiting for us on our porch. It was my friends Cody, Minx and Sierra!  They had come to visit me from California, which is where all of the happy cows come from.  They are not a part of the Traveling Sock Monkeys group, but they were disappointed to be missing out on all of the fun, so we invited them to come for a visit.

Cody likes to do something called “Search and Rescue.”  That means that when somebody is missing from a hike or something, he goes to help find them.  He learned this from his Mom, OutDoorK9Lady.  Her real name is Margaret, and she is one of my Mom’s good friends.   Cody wears overalls with lots of pockets on them.  They are a little too big for him, but they are nice and rugged for doing outdoor stuff.  He brought a kite that we will get to fly outside!

Cody has a Search and Rescue dog named Sierra.  Sierra has an orange vest so people can see him in the woods.  He also has a leash and a ball, and he knows lots of commands.

Puglet and Sierra get along very well.  They have become very good friends.

Minx is a sock moose.  Mom got her for Margaret last year.  She really loves living in California, but was excited to come back to our house for a visit.  She brought a ball of yarn and some knitting needles.  She is hoping that Mom will teach her to knit while she is here.

Margaret sent us a wonderful card about friends, and she sent me a little mini-Minx to keep.  It is very cute!  Margaret is very good to me.  She is the one that made my John Deere tractor afghan.  I hope someday me and Mom can go to California and meet her.

In addition to the card and the mini-Minx, Margaret sent a pretty pin and a heart stitch marker for my Mom, and some stickers for me!  She knows how much I love stickers!

She also sent a skein of the softest yarn I have ever seen!  It is just the right shade of sock monkey brown, and it feels like a cloud.  Mom says that is because it is mink and silk.  Mom says she is going to make herself a scarf from it.  I hope she will change her mind and make me a pillow for my new bunk bed.  It seems a shame to waste such nice yarn on a silly old scarf.

Minx and Cody will get to stay until next week, I hope.  Me and Mom are going to Omaha later this week, but we will only be gone for a few days, so I can play with Cody and Sierra some more when we get home.

Our latest visitor arrived yesterday!!  We have been waiting for her to get here for a long time!  Her name is Sister Mary Monkeypants, but we call her SMMP for short, because Sister Mary Monkeypants is a lot of name to have to say.    She is a sock monkey nun.  I guess that makes her a nunkey.  She belongs to our friend Puggerhugger, who Dharma is staying with right now.  SMMP will be lots of fun!  She came with a whole box of stuff – she has souvenirs from all of her travels.  She came with a lot of chocolate candy, which now looks like boulders in our refrigerator, because it has been 106 degrees here for the last three days.

SMMP is a hand-knitted monkey, and she is made from pink and purple yarn that looks like candy.  She has a hot pink wig that she picked up at Auntie Manitoba’s house, and a thing called a “rosary” that Silly Fru made for her.  It has beads and a cross, and hangs around the waist of her black outfit, which is called a “habit”.

She has lots of style, and I’ll bet everyone will want to meet her!  She will be great fun to have as a visitor!

SMMP will be going to Omaha with us.  I wish we could take Cody, Sierra and Minx, too, but Mom says we would not have room for clothes if we take everybody, and it wouldn’t be right to leave SMMP since she just got here.

SMMP is very excited about our trip.  She cannot wait to be a flying nun.

Today’s Vocabulary Words: Search and Rescue, rosary

    HI Noah,
Boy have you been a busy monkey!
Your brother is most handsome and his wife is cute as a bugs ear!
I see you have a lot of friends coming and going at your house. It is very quiet here. Austin and Don are at Boy Scout Camp all week. Would you like to be a Boy Scout Noah? You must always be prepared!
I hope you have fun with SMMP and don’t let her get you into trouble!

    Love Auntie Manitoba

    Hi, Auntie Manitoba!

We are having a busy and fun time at my house this summer, but I don’t think Boy Scout Camp is on the agenda. That sounds like it would be a lot of fun. I will have to ask my Dad if we can sign up for that. I think I would be good at it – I try to be prepared for most everything that comes my way. That is why I have a karate suit and pirate gear. You never know when you are going to need those.

SMMP is lots of fun. Her pink hair takes up a lot of room in the tote bag, though. We have to ride in there with knitting projects, which is not much fun at all. I think Mom should get us each our own seats on the plane. Then we wouldn’t have to share the snacks.

    Love, Noah
