Monkey About Town. . .

Today’s Fortune: This is a good time to finish up old tasks.

Well, that is an interesting fortune, because there is a lot that I have been needing to blog about that hasn’t been done yet. That is because Mom has been very busy with a big job. She worked on it all last week, and was too tired to be Adult Supervision. She will finish it tomorrow, though, so hopefully I will get to tell all about my zoo adventures and lots of other stuff soon.

Today, I will finish up some old tasks, though. Two Friday nights ago, we got to go out for a night on the town!! After we had dinner at Big Truck Tacos, we walked down 23rd Street to see the lighting of the Tower Theater. The theater was built in 1937, and closed in 1989. They have been doing something called “renovation”. That means making it as good as new! The neon sign has been completely restored, and it is very cool!

We walked on down 23rd Street, and I saw a very cool mural painted on the side of a building. Mom paints murals, too, but she has never painted one like this one.

It was on the side of the building that has 23rd Street Body Piercing and Atomic Lotus inside it. Atomic Lotus does tatoos! I asked Mom if I could get one like the sock monkey in the Kia commercial has, and she said, “Not as long as you live under my roof.” I will have to see if I can move in with one of my brothers. They both have tatoos, but they got them after they no longer lived under Mom’s roof.

There was a big crowd across the street from the theater. We noticed that the Taco Truck was there! We had never seen it out selling tacos. I was sorry that I already had a taco at the restaurant, because I would have liked to have one from the truck. I was very happy to see that it has a whole new look!

Our friend Kathryn was there. She is the Little Taco Twin. I told her Mom would not let me have a tattoo. She showed me her tattoos. She has a bunch of very fun ones. My favorite is the Shrinky Dink one. Mom agreed that it was very cute, but she still said I could not have one. I will have to work on her.

After we were done looking at theaters, trucks and tattoos, we decided to go to the Paseo Art Walk. This is something they have on the first Friday of every month. You can walk through the Paseo Arts District and look at all of the art displayed in the galleries. It is really neat to go there at night. (Mom noticed while she was taking pictures of me in the dark that my nose was grimy. I was not happy about that, but she was able to get it off with spot remover when we got home, so I did not have to have a whole Woolite bath.)

There are lots of cool buildings in the Paseo. We did not get to take a lot of pictures while we were there, because it was pretty dark outside, and you can’t take pictures in the galleries, because that is the rule.

I did get to see some very nice sidewalk chalk art though. Mom said it was okay to take pictures outside.

In other news, me and Dharma are in charge of a swap on Ravelry! Mom and the tractor girls are going to be swapping sock monkeys. We had everyone fill out questionnaires about what they would like their dream sock monkey to be. Me and Dharma posted the rules, which basically include making a sock monkey for your assigned partner (using the answers in their questionnaire to make it extra-special) and doing the whole package, including extras, for less than $20.00. That is so everybody can join in, and people have to be very creative, and not just spend lots of money.

After we posted the rules, I drew names out of my top hat to make partner assignments. This is a secret swap, so nobody knows who will be making their monkey. That makes it extra fun! Dharma watched while I drew names, just to assure everyone that I was being fair, and did not peek out from under the blindfold.  I was glad to get done with the name drawing part, because the blindfold squishes my ears.

We are very excited about the swap! I will probably have to finish it up by myself, because Dharma will have to go home to Connecticut soon, but she can keep tabs on the swap from the computer at her house.

In even more other news, I finally got to take my peeps out for a Peeps in Public day!! Dad still has not eaten all of the ones that Mom bought for him, so I figured mine were safe.  We took them to see the State Capitol.

I call this picture, “We the Peeple.”

They did not get to stay out for long, because it was very windy, and the dirt was blowing around a lot. Peeps are not as easy to wash as I am. I am pretty sure that Woolite would melt them.

    Hi Noah,
It’s great to see you’ve had a chance to blog. Your poor Mom works so very, very hard. I know you two will have fun when this job is over. And just think of all the wee ones she will make happy with her art. I bet they will all have much bigger smiles.

I’m sorry you have to send Dharma back. I know you will miss her terribly. Maybe, keeping tabs on the swap for the JDTD will keep you busy enough to not make you feel so lonely.

I am knitting my monkey and trying to make it very special. I also want to send some clothes with my monkey. Maybe a sweater. A hat for sure. And I was thinking maybe a blanket to wrap up in and snuggle with. I have no idea what kind of pet my monkey would like to take, so I’ll have to wait until it has eyes so we can go look together.

    Hi, Auntie Pam!!

Mom has been working hard on this job. She showed me some pictures she took today. I think it will be so fun for the kids! She will finish it tomorrow, and will only have to work part of the day, so maybe I can get to blog about the zoo some.

I will miss Dharma a lot, but it will not be as bad as the first time I had to send her. I thought I would never see her again, but I got to see her at Ashevegas, and on our trip to Boston, and Auntie Brenda does not seem to mind sending her here for an occasional visit. Since I know I will see her again, I will not be nearly as sad.

You should send me some pictures of the monkey you are making. I will keep it a secret. Clothes are definitely good, though. I was naked for nearly a month before Mom finally got me some clothes. As for a pet, I highly recommend a Puglet. You can get the pattern from DangerCrafts on etsy. A dragon would be good, too. Mom has promised to make me one of those.

    Hi Noah,

Maybe your mom wouldn’t object as much if you told her you want a MOM tattoo just like Kia sock monkey! That reminds me of something. One of Laura’s friends sent her a temporary tattoo of a sock monkey. Unfortunately it was a freebie at a trade show and not for sale or else Laura would buy them in bulk! I will have to blog about it or send you a picture. She has not applied it yet because she is waiting for a very special occasion to show it off.

The sock monkey swap sounds really fun! Maybe all of your friends can send you pictures of each sock monkey that was made so you can blog about them.

    Your Pal,
    Big Monkey

    Hi, Big Monkey!

Laura’s tattoo sounds awesome!! You will definitely have to blog about it!! Our sock monkey swap will be very fun, and I am going to see if everybody will send me pictures so I can put them on my blog. A lot of them are going to be hand-knitted ones, it looks like. Me and Mom are making one out of socks, but they are pretty awesome socks. The one we are making will not look much like you and me when we are done with it.

    Love, Noah
