Our Monkey Family Keeps Growing…
Today’s Fortune: Your blessings are too numerous to count.
That is a good fortune, and very true. I have more friends than I can count, and I get to do more fun stuff than anybody I know. It is good to be me!
After I opened my big box from Big Monkey, I helped Mom open the rest of the stuff that finally got delivered on Monday. We had two more Christmas cards from our Ravelry friends! One was from 2MayBoys. Her real name is Dawn, and she is Niklas and Mattias’s mom. Her card has cute puppies and peppermint on it, and we are putting it on the mantel with all of our other good cards. We have decided we are going to leave our Christmas stuff up for another week or two. We are not ready to see it go away.
Our other card was from our friend JollyPyrate. Her name is Naomi, and she lives in Florida. I wonder if she and Big Monkey are neighbors? Her card was a funny one with Santa and his reindeer on it, and she sent Mom some very nice stitch markers for when Mom makes socks. The stitch markers are from an etsy seller called Velvet Hippo. Velvet Hippo is a good shop, with good stuff and a good name!
The first package I opened was from our friend Knitmaus. She is my Auntie Leslie, and she lives in Ohio, which is where my oldest brother is going to be moving soon. I am hoping when we go to visit Lily-bean, we will be able to meet Auntie Leslie in person! She sent us a good Christmas card, and some yarn called Yarn Chef Mulligatawny that Mom really loves. It is her favorite cinnamony color. There was also a mystery package with fun gingerbread man stickers on it. I decided that one was probably mine.
I was right!! Auntie Leslie sent me one of those little colorful sock monkeys like we have seen in the gift shops in Ashevegas and Fayetteville! He has a red loop and a sturdy black clip attached to him. That is so you can hang him up as a Christmas ornament, or use him as a keyring, or clip him onto stuff so you can take him with you. He is a multipurpose monkey.
I clipped him onto my ear, so he would not get misplaced.
The next package was from our friend Galeu. Her real name is Gale, and she lives in California. Auntie Margaret lives in California, too, and Mom says we might fly out there this summer so we can meet them both. I sure hope we can, because I want to see all the happy cows in person!
Auntie Gale sent all kinds of good stuff, too! She sent Mom four skeins of Lorna’s Laces Swirl DK yarn. It is 85% merino wool and 15% silk, and it is very soft. As soon as it gets warm again, Mom is going to dye it. I asked her if she would dye it green and yellow, so I could have a John Deere tractor sweater to go with my new hat. I don’t think she heard me, because I did not get an answer. Maybe I should ask Magic 8 Ball.
She sent some really good stuff for me, too!! There was a monkey book mark that clips over the page to hold your place when you are tired of reading, and some yummy stuff called “Almond Roca”. It is like toffee with chocolate all over it, and it is really good. Me and Dad like it a lot. Mom is glad that Auntie Gale sent us the recipe, so she can make more. So are we.
Auntie Gale also sent a present that made Mom laugh really hard. It is something called a “cowl.” You wear it around your neck to keep you warm outside. It is made from fun fur, and it matches the awesome steering wheel cover that Auntie Pam sent us for Christmas. Mom will be driving in style now!!
The last package we opened was from Auntie Tracy, who lives in Tulsa. She sent Mom a whole pyramid of yarn! This kind is called Rowan Lima, and it is in Mom’s favorite cinnamony color, too. Mom gets lots of yarn in this color, and she never gets tired of it. She also likes brown and gold and sage green. Sage green is pretty good, but it is not John Deere green.
Auntie Tracy loves me a whole bunch! She sent me all kinds of good sock monkey stuff! I got a new sock monkey nightlight, a sock monkey snow globe, and three more colorful clip-on monkeys!!
I took my new nightlight out of the box and plugged it into the wall. Then I turned off the lights. It is awesome! Now I can see when I go down the hall in the middle of the night, and I don’t have to worry about stepping on a cat in the dark.
The snow globe monkey is awesome, too. He is filled with glitter, and when we took him out of his box, we figured out that he lights up, too!! He has watch batteries inside the bottom, and when you turn the switch, it lights up and changes colors about every five seconds! He is better than a lava lamp, and does not take up nearly as much space!
And we went from having no colorful monkeys at all to having four of them! I do not have nearly enough ears to clip them all to. They are very rambunctious and are likely to get into all kinds of mischief if I don’t find a place to clip them soon.
I was worried how we would tell the green ones apart, but Mom pointed out that the one from Auntie Tracy looks kind of cranky. I think he is the funniest one of all.
Now I have to pick out names for them. It is important for a monkey to have the right name, and we have so many monkeys here, I’m running out of choices.
I have seen books of names for babies at Barnes and Noble. I’ll bet they would work for monkeys, too. I may spend my allowance on one this weekend.
Today’s Vocabulary Words: Almond roca, cowl

Big Monkey
Noah,
I think you and I have to be two of the luckiest sock monkeys in the world, especially at Christmastime. I like the idea of the baby name book. You should take a census like I am this coming year to determine how many sock monkeys live in your home.
I bet your mom will make you a John Deere sweater if you’re a good boy this year, and I know you will be

Hi, Big Monkey!
I never thought about taking a census. That is a good idea. We have tried to count, but we get distracted and have to start over. Maybe if we had them all fill out census forms we would have an accurate count.
I am hoping you are right about the sweater. My purple one is nice, but I am getting tired of it. I need some variety in my wardrobe.
Love, Noah
