I am a pepper farmer!
Today’s Fortune: The wise thing to do is to prepare for the unexpected.
That is a very smart fortune. I have been growing pepper plants all summer and it is almost time for harvest, so I have been preparing for the unexpected. My dad got me an awesome garden cart at Lowes. It is called a Gorilla Cart, and it is green and yellow just like a John Deere tractor!! This is a thing you should get if you are going to be a farmer.
It is starting to get cold at night, so I have been bringing my crops in every evening. The Gorilla Cart is very handy and I can fit my whole farm in it when I prepare for the unexpected.
This was my first time to grow peppers, and it turns out I am a great farmer! I have three different kinds of peppers. They are all very hot. That is because my brother loves very hot peppers and he gave us the plants when they were “seedlings.” Seedlings are tiny plants that you grow from a seed. I am going to grow some from the seeds of my peppers next year! This is a Thai chili pepper, and the peppers are long and bright red. Mom says I can let these dry and grind them up to use when I cook!
This is my lemon jalapeno. These peppers turn bright yellow when they are ready to harvest. I had never heard of these, but the peppers are supposed to taste like citrus. They just taste like hot to me.
These are my favorite. They are Chinese five color peppers, and the pepper plants are humongous! These peppers start out purple, then turn light purple, yellow, orange, and red. You can pick them and eat them any time, but the closer to red they get, the hotter they are. A red one almost made my dad cry.
Preparing for the unexpected is hard work when you are a farmer. But having an awesome Gorilla Cart makes the job easier and a lot more fun. I wish I had a smaller one for inside the house. It would be very handy. I wonder if they make a Monkey Cart?
