Monkeys at Mast General Store….
Today’s Fortune: One old friend is better than two new ones.
I think this is a silly fortune. I don’t think you can have too many friends, ever. I have lots of old friends, but I always like making new ones.
Saturday, June 27th was our only full day in Ashevegas, so we had to cram lots of fun into one day. It started out with a trip to a place called Mast General Store. Mast is a wonderful place! They have all kinds of good stuff there. They had lots of monkeys there, including colorful sock monkeys that we had not seen before. One of them seemed a little blue, so I went over to cheer him up.
They also had a whole aisle full of John Deere Tractor stuff!! I had never seen so much yellow and green in one place in my whole life! Mom said we could get a picture, but we didn’t get to buy any tractors. She said I have enough of them, and that we didn’t have room in our luggage.
My very favorite part of all was the candy. They have barrels and barrels full of candy at Mast General Store! My friend Puggerhugger (Jana) helped me pick out some good ones. I got something called “Zots”, which are very sour, and make people make funny faces, which is lots of fun!
After we finished up at Mast, me and Sassy stopped into an antique store with Mom and Lizabee (Elizabeth). I found sock monkeys that needed rescuing, but Mom said that they looked pretty happy in North Carolina, and she reminded me that we did not have a lot of room in our luggage. Too bad, because I thought the one with the turtleneck sweater would have been a nice addition to our clan. Mom also kept muttering something about wondering when “Teddy Ruxpin” became an antique…
Sassy Le Pouf! got to meet David Hasselhoff! Well, not really – but the way she carried on over the Knight Rider lunchbox she found, I can’t imagine her being much more impressed if he had been there in person.
She also got to meet Barbie, who is one of her idols.
While Sassy was busy gossiping with Barbie, I found a good cow to ride! I was so glad to see that those happy California cows live in North Carolina, too!
When we finished looking at all the neat old stuff, we went to a thing called the Woolworth Walk. Mom says that when she was a kid, they had big stores called “Woolworth’s”. They had all kinds of things in them. Kind of like Super Target, I think. They went away a long time ago, but the one in Ashevegas has been redone, and now it has lots of great art and handcrafted items.
We did not take any pictures of the art, because that is usually not allowed at the galleries we go to, but we did get a good picture of the whole gang on the counter at the soda fountain where we had lunch.
And the birthday celebration started early for our friend Knittymac (Mary Ann). She got to have a yummy ice cream sundae for desert!
It was a great day! We had a lot of fun, even though we had to go to three different yarn stores. We got dragged to Purl’s Yarn Emporium, Earth Guild, and The Yarn Nook. Mom bought lots of yarn, and they gave Mom some free stuff at Purl’s, too.
I think this was why we didn’t have any room to rescue sock monkeys or take home John Deere tractors.
Today’s Vocabulary Words: Zots, Teddy Ruxpin, Woolworth’s

Well, Noah, as you know, I am not very good at computering so I am just hoping you will see this.
Joyce, my co-worker, @Mast General Store told me that you were in the store on Thursday (unfortunately, my day off this week). Anyway, Joyce said you had a pretty good time in the store window with some of our sock monkeys who are on a pretend camping trip. She said your mother took some pictures of you. I hope you would be willing to send me one or two (or more). Joyce also mentioned that Pug came in the store with you, but that Dharma was in the car. I hope she had the windows open as Thursday was HOT.
I look forward to hearing from you and seeing some pictures of your adventures in Asheville.
Your Asheville fan,

Hi, Laverna!!
I was really sorry to miss seeing you at Mast General Store! Me and my friends had a great time camping in the window with the other monkeys. I will be blogging all about the fun as soon as we get back from Camp Cavett! (I will have to blog for two months just to tell about all the fun I’ve been having for the last two weeks!)
Love, Noah
